Environmental Stewardship
The Port of Skagit commissioners and staff take great pride in their record of stimulating employment and generating commerce in Skagit County while being responsible stewards of the properties they control and manage.
Two prime examples of the Port of Skagit’s commitment to the environment are the extensive system of walking trails and the WIN wetlands program in place at the Port’s Bayview properties. In addition, in January 2010 the Port of Skagit Board of Commissioners approved a Resource Conservation Plan with a goal of reducing energy consumption in port-occupied facilities by 10 percent from 2008 levels within two years.
The effort also extends to the La Conner Marina, which earned a Clean Marina Program Certification in 2009 from Clean Marina Washington, a partnership of government agencies and environmental advocates. To meet the Clean Marina requirements, the Port of Skagit implemented mandatory Best Management Practices for all marina users and added a state-of-the-art filtration system to the boat wash-down facility. La Conner Marina was the 40th marina of 253 total in Washington to earn the Clean Marina designation.
